Welcome to our Glasgow class page! We hope this gives you more information about what is going on in Year 3. We will make sure to update this page every term so you are aware of any changes or upcoming trips! So watch this space 🙂

We have started off the brand new academic year with a bang! Our year 3 pupils are learning about Volcanoes this term, which has tied in really well in all of our subjects!

Literacy- We have been reading a book called Escape From Pompeii which has introduced our pupils to the world of Volcanoes, with our particular focus being on Mount Vesuvius. We will be creating a diary entry and a letter from our future selves!

Maths- We have brought together a real drive on focusing on number this term. We will be particularly looking at the different methods of number lines, column method and partitioning to help us with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Science- Our topic this term is Forces and Magnets! We will be looking at the different types of forces and how this affects things that move in real life!

Topic (ELQ)- As mentioned, we are looking at Volcanoes this term which will be explored in different ways through Art, Geography, PE and Music!

Music- Our Year 3's are incredibly lucky this year as we have specialist music teachers coming in to teach the pupils how to play the Toot! This takes place on a Friday afternoon!

MFL – Children will carry be learning French this year. We will be using Language Angels to support the children’s learning.

PE – Glasgow's Indoor PE is on Thursday afternoons. We are exploring Dance. Our Outdoor PE is on a Friday morning where we are focusing on Games (Tag Rugby).

PE Kit:

  • White T shirts (should be tucked in)
  • Black shorts (Black jogging bottoms for outside PE during Winter. Shorts/Dance leggings for gymnastics and dance)
  • Appropriate footwear for outside PE (trainers are recommended- Colour does not matter)
  • Hair tied back

Please ensure your children have their PE kit in school for every lesson. It is advised that pupils bring in their kits on a Monday and take it home on Friday to wash for the following week!

Homework and spellings – Spellings and timetables will be handed out every Friday and will be due the following Wednesday. We will be handing out project based homework tasks. Our homework will be displayed around the school or within the classrooms, and pupils will have a weekly spelling test!

Library books and changing books – This will happen on a weekly basis. Children are also encouraged to bring in their own reading books.

The Daily Mile – Thank you for your support with our Sports initiative! Year 3 will carry out the Daily Mile every Thursday between 08:45 and 09:00. They will also take part as a whole school every Monday!
