It is World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March 2017. World Book Day is the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in the UK and Ireland. A main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.
Your child will receive a World Book Day £1 Book Token that can be exchanged for one of the ten specially published World Book Day £1 books or is redeemable against any book or audiobook of their choice at a participating bookshop or book club between Monday 27 February–Sunday 26 March 2017.
To celebrate we will be holding a ‘Literacy Week’ from Monday 27th to Friday 3rd March. During the week the children will be exploring the work of the author, Julia Donaldson. They will also visit the secondary school library where older pupils will read stories to them.
To further celebrate World Book Day we will be encouraging both staff and children to dress up. On Thursday 2nd March, children in Nursery and Reception can come to school in their pyjamas with a soft toy and children in Year 1 can come dressed as their favourite book character. In the afternoon the staff will choose a book to read to a group of children.
We are certain we will have lots of fun as well as promote the importance and enjoyment of reading.
