Y9 Netball - March 2017

Y9 Netball League

Yet again, another fantastic season from the Year 9 Netball Team, scoring a total of 114 goals across 5 games.

  • ECS v BA = 30 – 4
  • ECS v SR = 22 – 1
  • ECS v E’Brook = 26 – 3
  • ECS v All Saints = 9 – 5 (game reduced due to rain)
  • ECS v Jo Rich = 27 – 6
  • ECS v RC = RC took the points as the fixture clashed with a futsal tournament and their teacher wouldn’t re-arrange a date to play.

2017 Year 9 Netball Rally

As defending rally champions, the pressure was on to retain our title.  Our first match was ‘grudge match’ against Clack, where we easily won 6-1, followed by All Saints; where we drew 3-3 and our third game against E’Brook, winning 8-0.  We were the winners of our pool so our next game was against Jo Rich in the Semi Finals which we won 8-0.

We faced All Saints in the ‘Final’. We led in the first half 5-1, however it was by far the most physically challenging 6 minutes of the whole tournament.  All Saints were aggressive, feisty and very tall, so our set plays had to step up; meaning the power in our passes needed to improve and our strategic attack/defence needed to be on point.  AND IT WAS! The final score was 7-3 and we practically dominated the possession in the second 6 minutes of the final.  We were intercepting passes and anticipating the game fantastically well. Elizabeth Thomas and Nicola Cheema’s centre passes were flawless, Norah Marie Rose and Diana Bonfim’s shooting was fantastic (as always) and our defence; Pelumi Abiola, Ruwayda Al-Miskry and Alesha Kwayie-Kuffour was impeccable!  I do have to give special credit to the performance of Ivana Jako, captain of the Year 9 team.  Her strength, adaptability and discipline within the game was truly incredible.  Her interceptions at key moments in each game stood out and was spectacular to watch.

Across this tournament and the league, each player proved their ability and progression, both mentally and physically.  I have never seen this team demonstrate so much passion, focus and determination within every game.  You are an absolute pleasure to coach and I am so very very proud of you all.

Sadly, this will be Elizabeth’s last year of representing Eastbury Community School and we all wish her a fantastic and successful sporting career at her new school.  You will be profoundly missed across Netball, Athletics, Rounders & Football.  Take care and don’t forget about us!
