Specialist Status in Mathematics and Computing
Eastbury is one of only a few schools in the country specialising in Mathematics and Computing.
Our specialism was chosen to provide our students with lifelong mathematics and computing skills for the world as it is today and as it will be tomorrow. This enables students to maximise their opportunity to gain skilled future employment locally along the Thames Gateway and nationally in Finance, IT and
associated industries. Within our core curriculum we develop students’ Mathematics and ICT expertise to excel in all subjects.
We have a purpose-built Mathematics laboratory and numerous ICT suites designed for the delivery of the Specialism. Our very successful Physical Education, Photography and Media departments have benefited from the wider provision that 1,200 computers can bring to a school.
Every classroom is fitted with a projector, screen and visualiser so that teaching in all subject areas can be varied, stimulating and personalised to meet the needs and learning styles of all students.
Eastbury is among the most successful schools in the country in delivering A Level ICT, and has a good record in teaching Mathematics at A Level, Statistics at GCSE and leads on Further Mathematics within the borough.
Our Virtual Learning Environment provides instant access to on-line learning materials. It allows students to access lessons and materials from home or any computer in the world with an internet connection. It links every student to each of their lessons across the whole school timetable and to resources and homework given by their teachers.
Students and teachers can assess homework online automatically. It also allows parents to view their child’s progress.
Within the wider community we work closely with various primary schools to ensure that they benefit from our school specialisms. We also work with employers from the local business community to provide work experience placements to help students with their career choices.
