Eastbury Community School

Roy Patient - Chair of Governors

24 January 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is with a very sad heart that I have to inform you that Roy Patient, our Chair of Governors passed away this morning.

Roy has been a dedicated servant of Eastbury Community School for over 50 years, and started as a key member of the PTA when his own children attended the school. He then became very active within the school, galvanising support to improve the education and provision for children at Eastbury, and at other schools within the Borough.

Roy has been a member of the Governing body for nearly 40 years, and Chair of Governors for 25 years+.

He worked tirelessly within the local community as a Councillor and as Mayor, again finding ways to improve the lives of those that lived in Barking and Dagenham.

On a personal note, I have worked with Roy for over 20 years, and his passion for our school and its community never diminished. In fact, it was only earlier on this week that we were in contact discussing future plans for the school.

Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time and we have passed on our condolences. He was, and will, always be part of the Eastbury family, and as Councillor Anthony Ramsay , Vice Chair of our Governing Body,  referred to him on hearing this sad news, Roy Patient was Mr Eastbury.

At a later time, in consultation with his family, we will look at how as a school we can commemorate,  celebrate and remember Mr Patient and all that he did for our school.

Kind Regards

SHARON GLADMAN - EXECUTIVE HEADTEACHER
