Nursery

Our Nursery provides children with a happy, safe and stimulating environment where they can begin their school journey. We welcome children aged 3 and 4 years old and offer both 15-hour and 30-hour places.

Our Nursery Offer

Children attending 15-hour sessions follow the same timetable in the morning and afternoon, ensuring equal learning opportunities. For 30-hour pupils, afternoon sessions are different to avoid repetition, with bespoke lessons planned to meet children’s individual needs.
Our Curriculum
Our Nursery curriculum is based on the EYFS Framework and builds strong foundations for learning. We provide engaging opportunities across the seven areas of learning, with a balance of adult-led teaching and play-based exploration.

Our Focus Texts
Throughout the year, children enjoy high-quality stories to support language, communication, and a love of reading. Our core texts are:

We use Talk for Writing to support story mapping, retelling and developing children’s vocabulary.
Phonics and Early Reading
In Nursery, we place a strong emphasis on developing children’s early communication and language skills. These foundations are vital for future success in reading and writing.
We begin with Phase 1 phonics, which focuses on listening carefully to sounds in the environment, exploring rhythm and rhyme, and tuning into the different sounds in words. Once children are secure in these skills, we introduce Sounds-Write Phonics. This programme helps children to:
-
Hear and say the initial sounds in words
-
Blend sounds together to make simple words
-
Build confidence with recognising and using sounds in everyday activities

Alongside phonics, we foster a love of books and storytelling. Children enjoy daily story times, use story maps through Talk for Writing, and have access to a rich variety of texts in the classroom.
Transition to Reception
Moving from Nursery into Reception is an exciting milestone in your child’s learning journey. At our school, we place great importance on making this transition as smooth and positive as possible for both children and families.
Throughout the year, our Nursery and Reception teams work closely together to ensure consistency and familiarity. Staff share information about each child’s progress, strengths, and next steps so that Reception teachers have a clear picture of every child before they start. This helps us to provide continuity and a personalised approach.
