Business & ICT Department Information

Described by Ofsted as: "a good department under strong leadership.”

This is a large, successful faculty with 8 staff teaching a range of courses across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.

It has increased its Computing provision in new accommodation with 300 computers in large, purpose built, suites.  Our expanding sixth form provides outstanding results in ICT and has consistently delivered the best results in the borough in Business and Economics.

Key Stage 3 Computing is taught to all students in Years 7-9 for two hours/week and includes topics such as How Computers Work, Webpage creation, Game Making (Kodu and Scratch), Spreadsheet modelling, Database design, Networking, Mathematics of Computing and some Python programming.

We offer the OCR GCSE Computing programmes to students at Key Stage 4. The specifications of these courses are readily available on the Internet and candidates should be familiar with them and ideally have experience teaching these topics.

Key Stage 5 delivers ‘A’ level and vocational courses in Computing, Business and Economics. As of September 2017 we will be offering the A Level Computer science course which follows the OCR exam board.

Our latest initiative provides a specialist laboratory for Level 3 delivery of National Diploma in Business and ICT.

We are looking to develop this as well as provide more adult provision in the community.

We are well resourced with all classrooms operating pc/video/audio/projector and imaging systems equipment.
